Rafael Nadal wins his 11th french open title


Rafael Nadal beats Dominic Thiem 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 this sunday in a French open despite cramps in his left hand. Later on overcoming to earn his record-extending 11th championship at Roland Garros.

Rafael Nadal collected the trophy from Ken Rosewall. It was his 11th French Open title and it still feels sweet. The tears trickle down his cheeks while receiving the trophy. It was his 17th grand slam title, taking him three behind Roger Federer, who’ll have opportunity for extending the gap at Wimbledon next month.

Austrian Dominic Theim,the No. 7, only one who could beat Rafael on Red Clay court over the past two seasons. It was a tough match , a major final he was playing for first time but this time Dominic took this match from him.

“It was the best match tournament for me. It was important because Dominic is a very aggressive player. I had a tough moment in the third set when I got cramp in my hand. I was very scared. But that is sport. It is very humid and I was against a tough player who pushes you to the end.”said, Rafael in his speech.

During the match, at 2-1 in fourth set Rafael stopped for a while as he could straighten his hand to hold the racket, and was immediately given a salt pill by the doctor and had his left forearm massaged by the trainer.

The victory also allowed the 32 year old player to hold on to No. 1 in ranking.

In men’s, Rafa Nadal won the french Open title and in women’s French Open Simona Halep was the winner of the day.
