Alia all set for the biopic on’ Gangubai kathiwadi’ a powerful woman of Mumbai. She took to social media to share the first look on wednesday. The actor plays the role of a mafia often called ‘madam of kamathiipura’ in Sanjay Leela Bhansali film.
The two photos show Alia’s transition from the young girl into a hardened brothel owner. She introduced two posters of the film on Instagram.
With caption,”Here she is, Gangubai kathiwadi.”
One poster was the long shot of her seating in a red bindi on the forehead wearing blouse and skirt with braid on one side and pistol on the other side lying on the table other poster is a monochrome close up of her face with a red bindi and eyes drenched in kajal.
Bhansali production unveiled the poster of Gangubai Kathiwadi on the social media with the caption, “Strength. Power. Fear! One look, a thousand emotions. Alia had shared the news of getting the lead role in the film in her Twitter handle and wrote, “A name you’ve heard a story you haven’t. #GangubaiKathiawadi This one’s going to be special!! Directed by #SanjayLeelaBhansali, releasing 11 September 2020.”

This project will see Bhansali Productions collaborating with Jayantilal Gada’s Pen India Ltd. The film is based on Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. The story revolves around Gangubai Kothewali, a brothel owner and matriarch.
Gangubai kathiwadi, the matriarch of kamathipura her real name is Ganga Harjivandas Kathiwadia. A young woman who was betrayed into prostitution who later on turned into one of a champions and the wealthiest benefactors but somewhere she had a soft spot for young women who are dragged into this prostitution.
According to S Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai, Ganga Harjivandas Kathiwadia got married to his father’s accountant but the marriage resulted into a fraud. Her husband sold her into prostitution. She was raped by the member of don Karim Lala’s gang she came back and fought and got to meet the don. Impressed by her spirit, the don made her his sister. From there she ran the brothel in kamathipura.
