Three rescuers trapped and killed under the three-storey building of Saw mill on Wednesday. The incident took place when the team of firefighters were carrying out their rescue operation to control the building set on ablaze.
Director General of Fire and Emergency Services, VK Singh said, the building housing the saw mill on the ground floor collapsed during firefighting in Golepulli area.
Three personnel lost their lives in the incident , while six –four civilians and two firemens were severally injured and were taken to hospital for treatment. Said, the Director.
Mr. singh said, immediately after the incident, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police rushed to the scene and were later joined by a team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to rescue the people trapped. After their hectic efforts, the dead bodies of the three trapped firefighters were retrieved from the debris.
Applauding the efforts made by the fire and the emergency department, Divisional Commissioner Sanjeev Verma said the firefighters did a tremendous job in controlling the fire and rescuing trapped civilians
The investigations will be held to find the exact reason of the building collapse.
An official of the NDRF said they got the call at around 6 am and joined the rescue effort around 8.30 am.
“The rescue operation took time as we have to make an approach through the debris to reach the trapped persons,” he said, adding that no one else is believed to be trapped under the rubble.
