India became the third most worst hit country by coronavirus. Around one crore tests has been conducted out of which around 7 lakh has been tested positive so far. The active positive cases stands at 2.5 lakh. Till now 4,39,947 patients has been discharged or cured, according to Ministry of health and family welfare.
India reports a spike of 22,752 new COVID-19 cases and 482 deaths in the last 24 hours.
More than half of all cases in the country are from just three states — Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Delhi.
So far, 11,980,595 people around the world have been diagnosed with Covid-19. While 6,849,076 have recovered, 547,321 have died till now, according to Worldometer.
Country-wise, the United States remains the most affected with 3,097,084 coronavirus cases and 133,972 deaths. It is followed by Brazil (1,674,655 cases, 66,868 deaths) and India (744,006 cases, 20,174 deaths).
- Electricity Minister and AIADMK leader, P Thangamani has tested positive for coronavirus, a party spokespersonsaid here on Wednesday. The Minister was admitted to a private hospital for treatment today following the test result, he said.
Thangamani, who holds the portfolios of power, prohibition and excise is also a senior AIADMK leader and party heavyweight in western Tamil Nadu. He is the second Minister to test positive after Higher EducationMinister K P Anbalagan.
- The bodies of two COVID-19 victims belonging to two different communities were swapped at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).The incident took place on Tuesday.
On receiving the information about the change of body, a commotion broke out at the gate of the hospital. As per the police, one of the families had already performed the last rites of the body while the other family was asked to wait and see if they got the right body. Both the bodies were cremated on Tuesday.
A senior official at the AIIMS trauma centre told,”Unfortunately, it has happened at the trauma centre. Action has been taken against two staffers of the mortuary. An inquiry has been initiated.”
