DDC Poonch reviews progress in construction of bunkers in border areas

Sites being handed over to R&B departments


POONCH:- District Development Commissioner Poonch Mohammad Aijaz Asad today took meeting to review the progress of construction of bunkers in border areas of Balakote, Mankote, Haveli, Mandi and Mendhar for which plan was finalised a month back.

Worthwhile to mention here that the administration has initiated the pilot project of construction of 1320 individual and 688 community bunkers in villages located along LOC which come directly in line of firing from across the border. These bunkers will be safe havens in hours of ceasefire violations to minimise loss of life in these areas. The project is targeted to be completed during the current financial year.

The revenue officials informed DDC that most of the sites/ locations for construction of bunkers have been handed over to R&B department and process has been set in for making entries of these identified sites in revenue record. The chair was further informed that NIT tenders have been notified and work will start soon after completion of tendering process.

DDC directed the concerned to identify and hand over locations for remaining bunkers within a week time so that construction work is taken up without any lapse of time keeping in view the importance of project for safeguarding the lives of those living in these areas.

He directed the concerned revenue officials to expedite the identification of locations for construction of community bunkers as well. He impressed that community bunkers should be in safer zones near colleges, schools, hospitals, religious and police posts which are easily accessible to people during cease fire violations.

The meeting was attended by ADDC Abdul Hamid Shiekh, ACR B.A Lone, Tehsildars Haveli, Mandi, Mankote, Balakote and Mendhar, R&B department, besides concerned officers from district administration.
