New Delhi: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah on Thursday lashed out at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmaker Vinay Katiyar’s recent comment on Muslims. “Kya yeh Katiyar ke baap ka desh hai? Yeh hum sab ka desh hai (Is this Katiyar’s father’s nation? This nation belongs to all of us)”, said Abdullah while talking to mediapersons. The J&K leader added that Katiyar keeps making such comments on a daily basis.
“As far as Katiyar Sahab is concerned, he makes such remarks on a daily basis. He daily says that Muslims should leave this country. Is this (India) his father’s nation? India is my nation, your nation-it’s everyone’s country,” ANI quoted Abdullah as saying.

Katiyar was quoted by ANI as saying, “Why do the Muslim need to stay in this country when a partition was created based on [the religions of the] population? They were given a separate piece of land. So they should go to Pakistan or Bangladesh; what purpose do they have here?”
Katiyar’s remarks followed a comment from his parliamentarian colleague Asaduddin Owaisi, who is also the president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). Owaisi demanded that a law be created to punish people who call Indian Muslims “Pakistanis,” which he argued was an insult to them.
