New Delhi:UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has appealed to India and Pakistan to “exercise maximum restraint” to ensure that the situation does not further deteriorate, his spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said, amid sudden spike in tensions between the two neighbours.

another side Jammu and Kashmir’s former Chief Ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah,who were placed under house arrest late last evening – have been arrested, sources said. Mehbooba Mufti has been taken from her home in Srinagar to a nearby government guest house.Mufti, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah and other mainstream Kashmir leaders were placed under house arrest on the eve of the Union government’s momentous decision to repeal special statue to J&K. People’s Conference chairman and former BJP ally, Sajjad Lone, along with Imran Ansari was also taken into custody later on Monday.Along with diluting Article 370, the government also decided to bifurcate the state into two Union territories – Jammu and Kashmir with a legislature and Ladakh without one.
