Sahil Sharma :- As we all know that the result of urban local body election 2018 for district Rajouri was declared on 20th of October last year in which a total of five municipal committees of district went on the poll and that registered a polling percentage of 81.0 percent in which 20 independent, 23 BJP and 20 INC candidates won the MC elections in the entire district.

It is pertinent to mention here that out of the total 17 MC seats in Rajouri town, Congress had bagged 7, BJP 6 while independents 4. After struggling for nearly one month in the hung like situation , BJP came forward and offered support to independent candidate Adv Arif Jatt, who with the support of BJP, was elected as chairman of Rajouri Municipal Council on 19th of november last year.In this way, six BJP and three independents supported Arif to ensured his success. Similarly, Senior BJP leader Bharat Bhushan Vaid, was elected as vice chairman. With this, the process for the formation of municipal council in Rajouri town has been completed on 19th of november last year.

But now the question arises what to do next because after almost 50 days of nominating the President and vice President , the office of the said post is still laying vacant in Rajouri municipality owing to that the locals of different wards of the town are facing many hardships in getting their work done in stipulated time period. The committee is least bothered in terms of providing better facilities to the residents of different wards of the town. There is no proper drainage system, lack of planning in dumping of waste material, bunch of garbage could be seen everywhere, shortage of public urinal points in and around the city, sanitation facilities, defunct condition of street lights and path holes at prime locations are some of the core issues which the locals of different wards of the town area have been facing for the last couple of years.

“We are getting confused because whenever we visit the office of municipal council, the officer present there says that your problems would be resolved only after the joining of chairman and our issues remain at same place and becomes more worst”, a local of ward no.5 added.Similarly, the residents of other wards are also facing the same problems and issues and urge to district administration to fill said posts at an earliest so that their languishing issues can be resolved in time.

In this regard, Mr.Mohd Ajaz Asad, DDC Rajouri also holding the post of District Election Officer under order no. ENT/K/2019/5319-23 dated 12-01-2019 has fixed date , time and place to administer oath of President , Vice – President of various municipal committees of district Rajouri. Like in Rajouri and Nowshera municipalities, the oath would be administered by the concerned ADCs on 16-01-2019 at 11:30 am.Similarly, the SDMs of thanamandi and kalakote would administer oath to President and vice President on 17-01-2019 and 16-01-2019 at 11:30 am respectively.
