Theatre in Peer Panjal region of J&K: Changing lives, Inspiring Youths


District Rajouri of Jammu and kashmir state is always been known as fertile land where great personalities have born and lighten the name of district and state. In recent decades it has emerged a hub of education with establishment of a university, Govt. colleges, Army college, Medical College etc. With the advancement of living standard of people, they have started venturing into new avenues to fulfill their aspirations and goals. One of the most preferred aspirations of youth today is acting in movies and theatre.

For few years a person is providing wings to the aspirations of youths in theatre. He has provided a platform to the youngsters who are interest in this field and wish to choose as a career. His name is Vishal Pahari.
Today, Vishal Pahari is a well known name in National level who has been working with a purpose and goal. Beside an acclaimed theatre actor, he is also an Assistant Professor at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri.(BGSBU)

Vishal founded a theatre group named “Rangmanch Theatre group” in year 2010, and in little seven years since he has staged around 200 shows in regional languages like Pahari and Gojri. His theatre group has also brought around 250 streets play on different issues concerning common people.

Parvaiz Malik is a well known writer from Rajouri who helps him in writing script for his plays. An areas where acting especially for girls in theatre is considered as taboo, Mr. Vishal has made a change in the thinking of people and has convinced parents to choose their girls ” theatre acting ” as a career choice.

His Street play “PUKAAR” has been staged 130 times and has bagged theatre awards also in December in Pathankot, Punjab and in same month and in January 2018 from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.

Another famous Pahari /Gojri play “Aakhir kiyun” has been awarded thrice on National level, in Varanasi, Pathankote and Bareilly

Many of his students are learning him to pursing career in this field .His student Trun Wasson from Rajouri has been selected for a drama in ZEE TV. Two other actors from his group Mujtaba Khan and Tabish Malik are looking forward to opt acting as career and are planning to take admission in National School of Drama, New Delhi. One of the best actors of the group  Anoop Sharma died 2 years ago.

In his career, Vishal Pahari has achieved many milestones. He has been awarded as best actor by Jammu University in 2002, best actor by D.I.G. Rajouri /Poonch range Sikander Singh Bijral in 2004, best director by SMVDU in 2015 and 2017 and best director by Jammu university in 2013.

Beside that he was also facilitated on “Rajouri Day” in 2017 by Ch. Zulfkar Ali, Minister in the Sate Govt.

His contributon in theatre has been lauded by many organizations. He was awarded for his contribution in this field by “Sangharsh” an NGO in 2016 and by Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University in 2017.

Vishal has also worked in regional films and television. He has acted in historical Pahari feature film Lakeer, directed by Shiv Dutt and Dogri film Geetiyan.

‘Geetiyan’ (pebbles) is a film in Dogri language based on gang wars in 1980s. This film brings out the Dogra culture of that time and war between gangsters. The film attracted Rangmanch Theatre Group the youths towards the regional cinema and also received critical acclaim from the people of Jammu.

On Small screen he has acted in “Birtiyaan” and “Nimaane” serials directed by Shiv Dutt and TS Wazir respectively and broadcasted on DD Kashir.

He has also acted in Urdu serial “Neelima shooted” that was directed by Shafqat Wani and broadcasted on DD Urdu.

He has also anchored for a documentary based on spiritual places of Rajouri and Poonch districts that was broadcasted Doordarshan Delhi.

In the regional media, he has been hosting a famous show “Seedhi Baat” on JK Channel.

For his contribution in the field, NTC (National Theater Council, India) Appointed as head of J&K.

Today “Rangmunch” theatre group is famous in all over the state and attracting the youths of state to fulfill their dream of acting. Beside that the group has helped in spreading awareness about many issues through its plays like ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ etc.
